Under 16 Girls vs Lincolnshire - Match Report

On Tuesday 5th April our Under 16 Girls made the long journey to Sleaford Town FC to face Lincolnshire. Coach Mark Wood provided the following match report:

Staffordshire started well, and two minutes into the game a great through ball to Ruby Jones was duly placed into the back of the net to give Staffs an early lead. Staffs remained dominant through the first half until just on the stroke of half time, with Lincolnshire sneaking in and equalising. 1-1 at half-time.

Our U16 girls did not start the second half as lively as we wanted, and on 60 minutes Lincolnshire punished us to take a 2-1 lead. Staffs reacted well and gave everything they've got, beginning to create opportunities again. On 66 minutes Erin Moreton Powell received the ball on the right wing and drove forward, with her lone run taking on and beating 4 players before unleashing a shot that was superbly tipped over the bar by the Lincoln keeper. However, Lincolnshire then countered and managed to secure their third and final goal of the evening. 3-1 to Lincolnshire at full-time.

Staffs put in a fantastic performance and certainly made coaches Mark Wood and Rob Wakelin proud to be part of the girls team and the excellent setup within Staffordshire. Well done girls and thanks to all players and parents for their dedication in travelling to support the team.
