Under 16 Girls vs Oxfordshire - Match Report

Manager Kieran Newey provides the following match report for the Under 16 Girls:

Staffordshire U16s Girls were edged out on penalties following a fantastic game against a very good Oxfordshire side. Oxfordshire opened the scoring shortly before half time with a powerful run that evaded 4 challenges and finished well. Staffs dominated the 2nd half with Millie Smallwood and Lottie MacMurray causing problems with Ruby Evans marshaling the defence superbly supported by Georgia Dawson, Natasha Goodwin and Erin Patrick. A few chances went begging before Jess Powis scored a stunning long range effort to level the score.

Further chances came & went without troubling the scores but 28 seconds into extra time great work from Evie Quinn released Lottie MacMurray who fired home to give Staffs the lead. Ebon Clarke saw an effort cannon off the bar as the game ebbed and flowed and with seconds remaining Oxfordshire scrambled an equaliser & then sealed the victory following a tense penalty shootout.

A great advert for girls & schools football and we wish Oxfordshire all the best in the next round.
